Dr. Ana Negrete is an associate professor of the Economics Program at the University of Guanajuato. In addition, she remains an associate researcher at the German Institute of Global and Area Studies. Ana is a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (SNI) and the Program for the Professional Development of Teachers (PRODEP). She developed professional experience at the United Nations in Geneva, the Mexican Central Bank, and the Global Economic Symposium.

Her research follows the principle of Theoria cum Praxi or “science for the benefit of society” thus focusing on applied econometrics and having a policy-making orientation. She is passionate about economic development, specializing in exploring the relationship between small-scale enterprise performance with long term economic growth. For example, innovation, capital accumulation, and firms’ growth potential. She teaches Macroeconomics, Impact Evaluation, and Innovation Economics.

Ana was the Academic Coordinator of the B.Sc. Economics at the University of Guanajuato between 2019 and 2021. She has lead research projects, pursued data collection in fieldwork, engaged in policy evaluations, and volunteered for a diversity of NGOs.

She speaks five languages: Spanish, English, German, French, and Portuguese. She is interested in meta-learning and in finding real-life solutions that make people’s lives better. Some of her hobbies are walking and listening to audiobooks.
